STUDIES OF COLOR
A Little About Me
Basically since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with the combinations of colors, the swirling of colors and the clashing of colors. I started with Legos, then I got that great box of 128 crayons and eventually I stumbled into the world of oils and acrylics. My journey into painting began after a trek to a museum of modern art and seeing amazing art works that inspired me. On my birthday, my friend handed me a bag of paints, paint brush, and a canvas and told me to stop talking about what I saw and start painting.
My Technique:
The first painting I tried was a disaster. I quickly realized my problem – I was using a paint brush and it was just not working. After some extremely entertaining experiments with any number of objects I could find in my apartment, I discovered tooth picks and popsicle sticks were what I needed to get what I saw in my head down onto a canvas. And my technique was born. It has been an amazingly amount of fun learning and experimenting. I have since found a great tool that has the same shape as a popsicle stick but it has more give than wood and is re-useable. But nothing has replaced my love of the toothpick. And I go through a lot of ‘em.
Thanks for your interest in my work.
